Wednesday break reflection  10 June 2020

A thought to start our reflection this morning.

When Jesus picks out the greatest commandments,
he refers us back to memories of special occasions in the Old testament
but uses them differently
During lockdown when we celebrated birthdays and anniversaries
we have had to find new ways of doing so.
Jesus said
You shall love your neighbour as yourself

Let us worship God

A few verses from the gospel according to Mark 12: 28-31

.A scribe asked Jesus,
‘Which commandment is the first of all?’
Jesus answered,
‘The first is,
“Hear, O Israel: the Lord our God, the Lord is one;
you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart
and with all your soul, and with all your mind,
and with all your strength.”

 The second is this,
“You shall love your neighbour as yourself.”

There is no other commandment greater than these.

Everyone sang by Seigfried Sassoon

Everyone suddenly burst out singing;
And I was filled with such delight
As prisoned birds must find freedom,
winging wildly across the white
Orchards and dark green fields; on-on- and out of sight.

Everyone's voice was suddenly lifted;
and beauty came like the setting sun:
My heart was shaken with tears and horror
Drifted away...O, but Everyone

Was a bird; and the song was wordless; the singing will
never be done.
Siegfired Sassoon unfurls the possibility and excitement of some new opportunity opening up and bowling you over with laughter. It's about the future opportunities.

Alan reflects on gifts, celebrations, opportunities and remembrance at this strange time.as we wait the possibilities to be unfurled.

Ruth plays for as as we pause and imagine...
our words as church in action.
What do you see?
How do you feel?

We bow our heads for a moment in prayer

And after we pray, we go and prepare.

History is important
and vital to the story of the bible.

But it only becomes God's history when
it reaches beyond the past to generate
a challenge for the future.

God's address to us today is
our choice for tomorrow.

May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with you,
Amen

Our church building in Spring

At the end of last year, Leonard said to me one Sunday that I should look forward to a surprise outside the church in late spring. Is this the surprise? Since we can't go into the building I thought you might like to see some pictures.
What thoughts of church and friends come to mind as you look at them?
Thank you Leonard and helpers.

Bible reading plan
oHere's a simple bible reading plan for the next few weeks taken from Janie Stuart's favourite Bible commentator-Dale Bruner. He calls it making a home with Jesus. (John 15). His suggestion is that we read a a book a month, reading a chapter a day and think about what we have read and what is happening in our lives. Since some books are have fewer chapters than days in the month, then you either get to have a few days holiday or spend time chewing over passages that caught your attention in that particular book.
His scheme for the next few months would be:
March: Luke 1-24
April: John 1-21
May: Acts 1-28
June: Romans: 1-16
We are part way through the gospel of Luke in the church so I would suggest the following:
March 22 to April 12 Luke 10 -24
April 13 to May 3: John 1-21
May: Acts 1-28 which would gets us back onto Dale's plan but let us read and reflect on the Easter story at Easter.
