Welcome to Banchory East church website
Worship Sunday 26 April 2020.

A thought to start with
At the start of John's gospel, God chose to reveal his only son, Jesus.
Jesus performed his first sign or miracle at a wedding at Cana in Galilee.
and his final sign or miracle on Lake Tiberias back in Galilee.
In between as we read we can find the help we need in his story to feel reassured in our present struggles..
John said, 'Look, it is the Lord.'
Jesus said 'Come and have breakfast.'

The Offering
We offer our gifts of time, talent and money to the work of God using the words of Hymn 505
All that I am, all that I do, all that I'll ever have I offer now to you.
Take and sanctify these gifts for your honour, Lord.
Knowing that I love and serve you is enough reward.
All that I am, all that I do,
all that I'll ever have I offer now to you.
All that I am, all that I do, all that I'll ever have I offer now to you.

SAM 2020
Today was the day we had planned to hold the annual meeting for the charity Banchory East church. While we cannot do that Mike, our session clerk, has put together a list of the points he had intended to share with us about the year 2019
You can see his report by clicking here.
Thank you to everyone involved with the East church. As we sing in one of our hymns - the church is not the building, the church is the people. Thank you for being the people and friends of the East church.

A closing thought
Tradition has it that John the evangelist lived to an old age. He had grown so old that in the end he had to be carried to the congregation and when he got there all he could manage to say was 'Peace be upon you'. Not a bad sermon.
He was buried by the sea, but it is said he was so full of eternal life that if you read the good book, you will see his grave rising and falling in time to his breathing.
John ends his gospel by saying that he has only written a fraction of what could be written about Jesus. How did the old Rabbi, Eliezer say it? If all the seas were ink and all the reeds were pens and heaven and earth rolling parchment and all men were scribes, we still would not be able to write down all we had learned with mind and heart about God.
John reminds us that Jesus has done so much. if everything were written down the world itself could not contain the books that would be written
The story though is not complete. It is the story of the living one. and the last page of that story is the page that God writes.
Peace be upon you,

Bible reading plan
oHere's a simple bible reading plan for the next few weeks taken from Janie Stuart's favourite Bible commentator-Dale Bruner. He calls it making a home with Jesus. (John 15). His suggestion is that we read a a book a month, reading a chapter a day and think about what we have read and what is happening in our lives. Since some books are have fewer chapters than days in the month, then you either get to have a few days holiday or spend time chewing over passages that caught your attention in that particular book.
His scheme for the next few months would be:
March: Luke 1-24
April: John 1-21
May: Acts 1-28
June: Romans: 1-16
We are part way through the gospel of Luke in the church so I would suggest the following:
March 22 to April 12 Luke 10 -24
April 13 to May 3: John 1-21
May: Acts 1-28 which would gets us back onto Dale's plan but let us read and reflect on the Easter story at Easter.
