Wednesday break reflection
22 April 2020
A thought to start with
Jesus stood on the beach
the disciples didn't know him.
Or did they?
It is the Lord, said the disciple whom Jesus loved.
Are you the disciple Jesus loves?
Am I?
Are we all?
Was Jesus in the shade that morning?
It is the Lord in the dawning
It is the Lord in all our joys,
It is the Lord in our sorrow,
our sickness and our health
It is the Lord risen and returned,
alive for evermore
giving us new life
saving us in style
It is the Lord
really alive
truly present,
his life intertwined with ours
always.
Can you see and feel the touch,
It is the Lord.
Let us worship him

A verse or two from John 21
Peter said, 'I'm going fishing'. Jesus said, 'Come and have breakfast' and fed them bread and fish. John 21 vs 3 and 12
We bow our heads for a moment in prayer
O gracious God
You reminds us in the difficulties and uncertainties of life to look to Jesus
So we do that right now.
We thank you for sending Jesus,
the thread that we follow
each in our own unique way,
but each brought closer to you through your son.
Hear our thoughts and prayers for
our friends,
our community,
Today some of us are celebrating even in these strange times
there are new births to acknowledge
birthdays and anniversaries to mark
so we bring these joyous occasions to you.
But as we do so we bring to you especially today, loving Lord
those who are suffering during this time for whatever reason.
We think of the bereaved
Those who struggle financially
Parents who juggle so many roles at present.
Those who despair.
Those who need care and support and
those who so willing give care and support.
Let each of them feel your special peace.
and help us all to hold onto your promises;
to look up and focus on your son Jesus,
for we find strength through Christ alone,
Amen

The way it is
There's a thread to follow. It goes among
things that change. But it doesn't change.
People wonder about what you are pursuing.
You have to explain about the thread.
But it is hard for others to see.
While you hold it you can't get lost.
Tragedies happen; people get hurt
or die; and you suffer and get old.
Nothing you do can stop time's unfolding.
You don't ever let go of the thread..
William Stafford
Hold onto your thread in these coning days.
Help others to do so too.

Bible reading plan
oHere's a simple bible reading plan for the next few weeks taken from Janie Stuart's favourite Bible commentator-Dale Bruner. He calls it making a home with Jesus. (John 15). His suggestion is that we read a a book a month, reading a chapter a day and think about what we have read and what is happening in our lives. Since some books are have fewer chapters than days in the month, then you either get to have a few days holiday or spend time chewing over passages that caught your attention in that particular book.
His scheme for the next few months would be:
March: Luke 1-24
April: John 1-21
May: Acts 1-28
June: Romans: 1-16
We are part way through the gospel of Luke in the church so I would suggest the following:
March 22 to April 12 Luke 10 -24
April 13 to May 3: John 1-21
May: Acts 1-28 which would gets us back onto Dale's plan but let us read and reflect on the Easter story at Easter.
