Sunday 19 April 2020 worship.
Let us worship God
They who look to God are radiant with joy: they will never be ashamed.
Psalm 34:5
Jesus is risen from the grave
Jesus was seen by Mary
Peter will still be smiling
Thomas will stop his doubting
Jesus will meet his people
Jesus will live forever
Jesus is risen from the grave
Jesus is risen from the grave
Jesus is risen from the grave
Alleluia

The Offering
We offer our gifts of time, talent and money to the work of God using the words of Hymn 505
All that I am, all that I do, all that I'll ever have I offer now to you.
Take and sanctify these gifts for your honour, Lord.
Knowing that I love and serve you is enough reward.
All that I am, all that I do,
all that I'll ever have I offer now to you.

John Leads us in our prayers for others and the Lord's prayer
A final thought to ponder this week
Jesus leaves us with a final Beatitude.
Near the end of John's gospel, Jesus says to Thomas. You believed because you saw me. God bless all those people who haven't seen me, but have still believed.
That includes us all.
Graciously Jesus turns from Thomas to embrace each one of us.
We haven't seen Jesus
We didn't get to touch his wound, yet he blesses us
In many ways, perhaps those disciples in that upper room had it easier than us.
We believe on the basis of their shared stories.
So thank you John for ending with this tremendous Resurrection encounter that includes a world wide, all time embracing blessing for all who weren't in that upper room and were not privileged to share the aural, visual and tactile embrace.
Now that is an ending to a gospel, isn't it?
Good news indeed
Jesus said
God bless all those people who haven't seen, but have still believed.
and now may the blessing of God almighty,
Father, Son and holy Spirit be with you now and forever more,
Amen.

Bible reading plan
oHere's a simple bible reading plan for the next few weeks taken from Janie Stuart's favourite Bible commentator-Dale Bruner. He calls it making a home with Jesus. (John 15). His suggestion is that we read a a book a month, reading a chapter a day and think about what we have read and what is happening in our lives. Since some books are have fewer chapters than days in the month, then you either get to have a few days holiday or spend time chewing over passages that caught your attention in that particular book.
His scheme for the next few months would be:
March: Luke 1-24
April: John 1-21
May: Acts 1-28
June: Romans: 1-16
We are part way through the gospel of Luke in the church so I would suggest the following:
March 22 to April 12 Luke 10 -24
April 13 to May 3: John 1-21
May: Acts 1-28 which would gets us back onto Dale's plan but let us read and reflect on the Easter story at Easter.
